The Dovahkiin, also known as the Dragonborn, was a Dragonborn Nord hero. Among his many accomplishments, he brought an end to the Skyrim Civil War and the even more threatening Dragon Crisis of the Fourth Era, restoring peace throughout Skyrim.
Biography[]
Early life[]
The Dovahkiin was born in the year 4E 176 in Skyrim. After the Thalmor raided his settlement, seeking out Talos worshippers.
Return to Skyrim[]
The Dovahkiin spent his savings on a horse with the hope of heading east to escape the civil conflict. Yet just as he prepared to depart, he fatefully encountered Lokir, an old acquaintance Lokir who was once a member of the Dovahkiin's childhood gang. In an impulsive attempt to make a name for himself amongst the ranks of the Stormcloaks, Lokir snatched the Dovahkiin's horse and made off with it. The Dovahkiin, who had other plans, caught Lokir on foot. Unfortunately for the Dovahkiin, Lokir was riding with a group of Stormcloaks just as they were all met by an Imperial ambush: it branded everyone a traitor. Helplessly outnumbered, most surrendered, but not the Dovahkiin. Dozens of guards were needed to finally put the Dovahkiin out by a blow to the head.
He awoke nearly an hour later upon a horse-drawn cart, his hands bound by rope. Before him sat Lokir and a Stormcloak rebel and; to his right, a hunched, gagged man. The rebel introduced himself and commented on the Imperial ambush. In a sudden change of heart, Lokir said that without the rebels, he might have been able to escape with the horse. He then referred to the Dovahkiin and assured him that they don't belong with the Stormcloaks. The rebel told Lokir to shut up, but Lokir ignored his comment, inquiring as to the identity of the hunched figure seated before him. Taken aback, the rebel exclaimed that the man was Ulfric Stormcloak himself. Lokir realized that if he were with the leader of the rebellion himself, then the cart would not be heading to prison. The Stormcloak replied that although he didn't know where they were heading, their fate would certainly be death. Lokir revealed that he was from the settlement of Rorikstead.
As the two concluded their conversation, their cart proceeded in Helgen. The Stormcloak then said that he was from Helgen and reminisced about his childhood. The cart stopped in a dense crowd of townsfolk and Imperial officers: both groups were eager to witness the executions. Based on their pleas and shouts, the Dovahkiin could tell that the townspeople had conflicting views on the rebellion. The captives hesitantly moved out of the cart and were met by the Imperial Legate Rikke and Hadvar, an Imperial officer. When Lokir's name was called, suggesting that he had a bounty on his head in Skyrim, he tried to flee. The Commander ordered her archers to open fire: Lokir was struck in the back and fell to the ground, almost instantly dead.
Lastly, the Dovahkiin was called up by Hadvar, the Imperial officer with the list. Because no bounty was on the Dovahkiin, his name was apparently unknown to the Imperial Legion soldiers in Skyrim. The Imperial officer with the list asked his commander whether they should executed him; after the trouble that he had earlier caused, she was eager to have him beheaded. The officer with the list, a Nord himself, wished him luck, telling him that at least he would die in his homeland.
The Dovahkiin was among the first to be called to the block. He silently complied. Ferocious roars echoed through the sky, and the Imperials seemed unsettled. A wave of fear overcame the crowd as the Dovahkiin knelt to lay his head on the block. The executioner raised his axe--and toppled! A shockwave emanated from a massive dragon that had just perched upon the stone tower before them. The dragon roared again: the Dovahkiin was thrust onto the dirt as the crowd rushed to cover.
Hadvar, who had just sent him to the block, now ran to his aid, suggesting that he find cover in the fort behind them. Therein they again met Ulfric, who stood beside some wounded soldiers. Aware that they couldn't hold this position forever, the Dovahkiin ran up the spiral stairs looking for an escape.
Personality[]
While most Nords were infamous for their assertive, high-tempered nature, the Dovahkiin was born under the sign of the The Lady, and consequently, his personality was more balanced. Surprisingly, the Dovahkiin proved to be an exceedingly compassionate, thoughtful individual. His gift allowed him to view debates from a much more neutral standpoint, compared to other Nords.
